[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-08-24 Summary: Sweet ... I have not used this machine heavily, yet, but it folds a piece of paper in about 1/3 of a second. The outfeed trays are two loose pieces of sheet metal. Also, the guides are a little difficult to keep square--I recommend buying an American-made try-square at your local hardware store (not Lowe's or Home Depot!). ...more

Bach Bachianas / Arleen Augér, The Yale Cellos of Aldo Parisot
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2000-06-23 Summary: Amazing! ... This is a thrilling album. It just blew me away! ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2002-11-29 Summary: The Very Best ... I am actually aquainted with a couple of the cellists in this cd, and as the person who wrote one of the other reviews states, all of these cellists went on to become fantastic. The couple I know are both teachers. I have also met their teacher and director for this cd, and he is a fantastic man. The music in this cd brings you to another dimension and shows you another side of classical cello choir music! ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2000-07-12 Summary: The Best There Is ... I am a professional cellist, and I have many versions of the Villa Lobos works. There can be no doubt that this recording is the definitive one. All the music is glorious, the arrangements are brilliant, and the singing is top-notch(although it is the cello choir that is the "raison d'etre" on this album) Aldo Parisot has always been able to show his students how to create a luscious "liquid" sound, and this album bathes the listener with a hint of Heaven. At least one of the players on this album is now a principal ...more
[4] Rating: 5 Date: 2005-02-07 Summary: The best there is! ... I am a graduate of the Juilliard School in the same year this CD was produced. I have never heard a better recording of anything, ever. The freedom of sound that these cellists produce is something that I only heard growing up with my mother having a very good studio of cellists, and we played cello choir music frequently, the two villa-lobos bachianas being pieces my mom found for us to play while cruising through carl fisher as she frequently did. This is cello the way it was meant to be. ...more

The Company
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2010-03-08 Summary: The Company - entertaining historical fiction ... If you're open to an older movie as your next one to watch because you've burned through the new releases, check this one out. If you're into historical fiction, you may like The Company, with Chris O'Donnell, Alfred Molina, and Michael Keaton. It just occurred to me we have some superheroes here - O'Donnell and Keaton from Batman, and Molina was Doc Ock in Spiderman. Appropriate maybe for a movie based on the CIA's history. The film follows 3 men recruited into the CIA from college in the 50s through 40 years of the ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-03-01 Summary: Better then hoped ... While it was a bit disappointing that all the major story lines were transferred to Jack, it was understandable. In order to make the miniseries understandable and cohesive, there had to be a good deal of story compression and or serious editing. The characters are true to the book, the actors are uniformly excellent. I would recommend this miniseries to anyone. ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-10-05 Summary: BEST SPY MOVIE / NOVEL, EVER!! ... I'm 63 years old; and, this Movie brought to Life the History I remember. The Russian Tanks Crushing the Hungarian Revolt, in 1958 & the Soviet Union's Invasion of Czechoslovakia, in 1968; the Building of the Berlin Wall & the Fiasco of The Bay of Pigs, in 1961; the Cuban Missile Crisis, in 1962; all the way down to the Fall of the Berlin Wall, in 1989. And, it showed the Double Agents: Philby, Burgess & MaClean. True, it showed the Flaws in our Foreign Policy; but, it also showed the Dedication of the Good Folks at ...more
[4] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-09-15 Summary: Interesting & Well Acted ... I Enjoyed This Mini-Series, Even Though It Was A Bit Slow To Start, The Acting Was Superb By The Entire Cast, I Recommend It To All Amazonian's ...more
[5] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-02-18 Summary: If you like Spy movie, you will love this. ... If "Band of Brothers" is the best TV series on the subject of WWII, then "The Company" is the best TV series on the subject of the Cold War or Spy Games. (They even have the same director on a couple episodes.) I have yet to see any other TV show on such subject that is as good as The Company. It's was nicely put together, everything accurate down to the smallest details. Acting was excellent. They picked the perfect cast for every role. I have no complaint what so ever other than it was too short. I wish they could ...more

[2] ... Amazon.com | Handsomely mounted, epic in scope, and featuring an outstanding cast, TNT's The Company might restore some much-needed luster to the image of the Central Intelligence Agency (then again, perhaps not). Based on Robert Littell's popular historical novel of the same name, the show commingles real and invented characters as it traces the CIA's role in several major events, from the earliest days of the Cold War through the collapse of the Soviet Union, with particular attention given to the division...more

Atheist Delusions: The Christian Revolution and Its Fashionable Enemies
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2010-02-09 Summary: Intellectual Honesty ... Anybody who has thought about Christian theology and its influence in Western culture for more than the time it takes to read one of Sam Harris's books, and who wants to claim any shred of intellectual honesty in the analysis, either approvingly or along the lines of current detractors, should read this book. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-01-17 Summary: turning to history and dismissing the modern myths ... Obviously there are tons of reviews here that you can read to make up your mind over the purchase of this book, but as someone who has been on both sides of this debate, and as a trained historian and teacher of history, I can say that what I found most useful was the author's critique of so many mythical versions of history that pit religion (Christianity in particular) against reason, charity, science and history itself. At university I was indoctrinated with almost every alternate, pop-historical theory that supported ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2010-02-13 Summary: Don't Throw the Baby Out with the Bath Water ... This is an interesting work, and the first I have read by author Hart. I must honestly say that most individual responses will tend to be either loving or hateful. The title is seriously misleading, but there are points here worth pondering. The meat of the author's argument that becomes obsecured by all the invective and rhetoric is that Christianity created the concept that each individual was a valuable human being, whether or not you believe we are created in the image of God. This was a serious elevation of humanity, ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | Currently it is fashionable to be devoutly undevout. Religionâs most passionate antagonistsâChristopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris, and othersâhave publishers competing eagerly to market their various denunciations of religion, monotheism, Christianity, and Roman Catholicism. But contemporary antireligious polemics are based not only upon profound conceptual confusions but upon facile simplifications of history or even outright historical ignorance:...more
